Sen. Jon Tester announced last week that he has helped secure $328,973 in federal funding for local law enforcement throughout Montana, including a grant for Havre.
“Local law enforcement officers are the reason we can sleep soundly at night,” Tester said. “These heroes deserve the same peace of mind. That’s why I’m proud to help increase the safety and preparedness of our local law enforcement agencies.”
The awards all come from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program, which awards funding to state, local and tribal entities to support law enforcement initiatives based on specific regional needs. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Tester has advocated for investing in the JAG Program.
Havre was awarded $10,535, which the city plans to use to purchase traffic safety and communications equipment to ensure the city’s police officers are safe and connected.
