Now it gets really real for the Havre High golf teams. The Blue Ponies wrapped up the regular season this past week with two tournaments on the road, and now head into the 2016 postseason.
Thursday, Havre was at Eaglerock Golf Course when the Blue Ponies played in the Billings Central Invitational, which included a tough field of the host Rams as well as all three Class AA Billings schools. The remainder of the Eastern A was also in attendance, so the tournament was certainly a challenge for the Ponies.
And the boys’ field turned into a dual between two Billings stars in West’s Joey Moore and Central’s Liam Clancy. Eventually, Clancy won individual honors, while West captured the team title with a 300. Havre was seventh with a 355, led by Distin Haas’ 81. Kane Gabrielsen fired an 89, while Aden Passon shot 90. Kyle Kirkpatrick and Gavin Mosbrucker each shot 95 for the Ponies.
On the girls side, Havre finished seventh with a 424 team score, while West was again champion. Sophomore Teagan Fee paced the Ponies with a solid 95, while Grace Litzinger (104), Kinzee Peterson (112), Regan Lammers (113) and Mackenzie Tilleman (118) rounded out the scoring for the Ponies.
And Havre wasn’t done with tough courses and tough fields, because the Ponies traveled to Laurel for the Laurel Invitational Friday. Against a similar field, and an even tougher course, the Ponies battled hard.
The Havre boys again shot 355, with Passon shooting a team-best 85. Gabrielsen added an 87, while Haas shot 88. Kirkpatrick came in tiwth a 95 and Mosbrucker posted a 110 for the Ponies.
The HHS girls finished the regular season with a 454 in Laurel. Ree was low score for the Ponies with a 103, while Tilleman shot 115, Peterson 117, Lammers 119 and Litzinger 123.
Havre will now turns its full attention to the Central A Divisional tournament, which takes place this Friday at East Glacier Golf Course outside of Browning. The Ponies will then move on to the Class A state tournament Sept. 30-Oct. 1 in Hamilton.
