It’s hard to believe, but the Havre High boys and girls golf teams have just one week of regular season meets left before postseason golf arrives. Two meets to be exact.
And, they’re two of the most challenging meets the Blue Ponies will face all season long.
The first one of those meets comes today when the Ponies travel to Billings for the Billings Central Invitational. The 18-hole tournament will be held at Eaglerock Golf Club and will feature the Ponies, as well as all of the Eastern A, and most likely, junior varsity players from all three of Billing’s Class AA schools.
Of course, the course, which will certainly be a test, plus seeing all of the Eastern A competition, will be Havre’s primary focus Thursday as the Ponies continue to prepare for the postseason.
The Havre boys are coming off a first-place finish last Friday in Lewistown, and led by seniors Dustin Haas, Kane Gabrielsen and Aden Passon, who all have multiple Top 10 finishes this season, the Ponies are hoping to continue to lower their scores as the postseason quickly approaches.
The same goes for the HHS girls. The Ponies have been battling rival Lewistown all season for who will be tops in the Central A. So this week will be a good chance for Havre varsity players Teagan Fee, Grace Litzinger, Regan Lammers, Kinzee Peterson and senior leader Mackenzie Tilleman, to see some different competition.
And while the competition won’t change much for Havre’s second meet Friday, the course certainly will. After the Billings Central Invite, Havre moves on to the Laurel Invitational, which is played at the famed Laurel Country Club. The Laurel course is perhaps the toughest venue the Ponies will play this season, so it will be a great opportunity for Havre’s golfers to really test their skills, and it’s a perfect way for the Ponies to head into the postseason.
Following HHS’ trip to Billings and Laurel this weekend, Havre will get ready for the upcoming Central A Divisional, which will take place Sept. 23 at East Glacier Golf Course. Then, it’s on to the Class A state tournament, which runs Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at the Hamilton Golf Club in Hamilton.
