Beeters take Chinook Invite crown

Two big tournaments were the center piece of the second week of the high school volleyball season on the Hi-Line. Both Chinook and North Star played host to preseason tournaments as the volleyball season really kicks into high gear.
At the annual Chinook Invitational, the Chinook Sugarbeeters successfully defending their home court by beating Class B rival Glasgow in Saturday’s championship match. Chinook topped the Scotties by scores of 25-21 and 25-24, after also beating Class B Conrad in the semifinals, and Chester-Joplin-Inverness in the first round.
The Chinook Invite started Friday when the Beeters went a mere 2-2 in Pool A. Chinook opened the tournament with a loss to Glasgow, but rebounded to beat Valier and Simms, before falling to Shelby. Pool play however, was just one set. CJI, was 2-2 in Pool B, defeating Highwood-Geraldine and Cut Bank, but losing to Malta and Conrad.
Meanwhile, many more local teams were playing in the North Star Showcase. The tournament started Friday with pool play in both Rudyard and Gildford.
In the Rudyard Pool, Big Sandy went 2-2 with wins over Hays-Lodge Pole and Sunburst, while the Thunderbirds were 0-4. In the Gildford Pool, the host North Star Knights went 3-1, while Fort Benton was also 3-1.
The action went to the bracket format Saturday, with Fort Benton defeating North Star in the third-place match, while Big Sandy wound up fifth. The title went to Roy-Winifred, which beat Cascade in the championship match.
