Hawks, Beeters, Knights grab first wins

The 2016 high school football season did not start the way the Chinook Sugarbeeters wanted, but Friday night in Simms, Chinook had a chance to get its season going back in the right direction.

And after losing to Centerville a week ago, Chinook found a way to get a critical win over the Tigers, winning the game 36-6. Chinook scored 24 points in the first quarter. Kade Friede hit Kyler Johnson for a touchdown pass and scored two running touchdowns. Tate Niedergger also added three touchdowns in the win.

Chinook and Simms are now both 1-1 on the season. The Beeters pay a visit to Belt this Friday in a crucial matchup in the 8-Man Northern C Division.

CJI 30, Hays-Lodge Pole 22

For the second straight week, the Hays-Lodge Pole Thunderbirds nearly ended their winless streak. Last week, they lost a close game to Great Falls Central and this past Saturday, in Hays, the T-Birds lost a hard-fought game with Chester-Joplin-Inverness, 30-22.

The win was a big one for CJI after falling to Belt last week and helps them keep pace with the rest of the top teams in the Northern C. The Hawks (1-1) will host Cascade Friday in Chester. HLP, on the other hand, will travel to Fort Benton Friday night.

Belt 50, Fort Benton 8

Fort Benton took in Belt in its second game of the season and fell in Northern C play and fell to the Huskies, who are now 2-0, by the score of 50-8. The Longhorns will host HLP this Friday in search of its first win of the season.

Big Sandy 33, Noxon 22

The Big Sandy Pioneers paid a visit to Noxon Friday night in search of their first win and by way of a 33-22 triumph, they got it.

Laurence Alderdice scored a rushing touchdown in the first quarter and added three more in the second half as Big Sandy took an 8-7 first-quarter deficit and turned it into an 11-point victory. Big Sandy (1-1) will visit Box Elder in a battle between teams from the Six-Man North Division.

North Star 43, Custer-Hysham 6

After dropping their first game of the season, the North Star Knights evened their record last Friday night, by dismantling Custer-Hysham on the road by the score of 43-6. The Knights are now 1-1 for the 2016 season and will have a key game Saturday, when they will travel to Sunburst for a key battle in the North Division of Six-man football.

Shelby 66, Harlem 0

The Harlem Wildcats hosted Shelby Friday night in Class B 11-man action in Harlem. But, the Wildcats were no match for the Shelby Coyotes, who thrashed Harlem by the score of 66-0.

Zach Torgerson scored five rushing touchdowns, while Aaron White also added three of his own in the win. Harlem (0-2) will pay a visit to Rocky Boy Friday night. Kickoff will be at 7.

Roundup 55, Rocky Boy 6

In other Class B action, Rocky Boy paid a visit to Roundup in non-conference play. The Stars, who won last weekend, were no match for Roundup, which dispatched of Rocky Boy 55-6.

Chase Cochran scored the only touchdown of the game for the Stars, catching a 65-yard touchdown pass from Jerell Gopher.

The Stars (1-1) will attempt to rebound versus Harlem. Rocky Boy will host the game Friday night.
