The Havre High cross country teams got their season underway this past Friday in Cut Bank, and the Blue Ponies had some runners put together some impressive individual performances.
While the meet, which is called the Cut Bank Time Trials, does not calculate many team results, there were a number of teams competing in the event, which offered some stiff competition and a good indication where each team and runner is at, early in the season.
For Havre, no one stood out more than freshman runner Kadia Miller, who led the way for the HHS girls with a time of 20:46, which was good enough for 14th place overall. She was top finisher on either team and was among four Pony girls who finished in the top 100. Nicole Parsons was 68th (23:49), Amelia Miller was 71st (23:57) and Melanie Jones finished 84th (24:37).
The other Havre girls who finished the meet were Meggie Zook, who was 114th, followed by Rhoda Peterson (120), Hannah Prat (130), Lilly Taly (134), Natalie Verploegen (143) and Makyla Tomac (146).
On the boys side of things, junior Austin Jones got his season off to a strong start, finishing 30th at the time trial with a time of 18:12.42. Jones was the top runner for the Pony boys at the meet, but it wasn’t by much as sophomore Jakob Keller also had a great day, running an 18:12.76, to finish 31st.
In all, Havre had nine runners finish in the top 100. Trevor Williams was 46th with a time of 18:50, while Quinn Reno finished 61st (19:35), Aylon Pratt was 67th (19:55), Barret Kilgore was 75th (20:06) and Andrew VandenBos was 89th (20:35). Cameron Pleninger (91) and Noah Azure (92) were also in the top 100. Ryan Stewart, Taylon Mullan, Ammon Lines, Riley Kilgore, Torek Swensen, Josiah Harrison and Ethan Lines also competed in the race for the Havre boys.
Both Havre teams will be back in action this Saturday, when the Ponies will take part in the Malta Invitational. It will begin at 10 a.m.
