After playing on their home course last Thursday, the Havre High boys and girls golf teams were looking for a good test of golf. And the Blue Ponies found it at the Belgrade Invitational.
The tournament was actually played at Bozeman’s Riverside Country Club Monday, and both Pony teams came away with second-place finishes.
On the boys side, Havre shot a 345 to finish behind only the Butte Central Maroons. The field consisted of Havre, Belgrade, Lewistown, Livingston and the Maroons, so it was good for the Ponies to see most of its Central A rivals.
Individually, senior Dustin Haas paved the way for the Ponies with an 81, which put him in second place overall. But, as well as Haas played, Havre’s top three players all scored well. Kane Gabrielsen fired an 83, while Aden Passon shot 84. Senior Kyle Kirkpatrick also posted a 97, while sophomore Tommy Brown rounded out the scoring with a 111.
The HHS girls also placed second Monday in Bozeman. Havre shot 424 as a team, finishing only behind the Lewistown Golden Eagles.
Sophomore Teagan Fee led the Ponies, yet again, shooting a 97, which put her in 8th place overall. Regan Lammers fired a 108 for the Ponies, who were consistently close together, as Kinzee Peterson shot 109, and Grace Litzinger and Mackenzie Tilleman each shot 110.
The Blue Pony JV teams also competed at Monday's Lewistown Invite at Pine Meandows Golf Course. On the boys side, Gavin Mosbrucker took first place with a 94. Bobby Personett shot 100 for fourth place, while Nik Keller was fifth at 101. Tucker Carlson shot 106 and Honodo Owens 1-7. The Havre boys finished first overall, winning the tourney by 104 strokes.
Havre sophomore Marcee Murphy was first on the girls side with a 117.
Head coach Brett Gilman’s Pony golf teams will now get ready for the Browning Invitational, which will be played at East Glacier Golf Course Thursday. The Ponies then don’t compete again until Sept. 9 when they head to the Lewistown Invitational.
