Montana Actors’ Theatre is set to hold auditions for a musical take on a popular cult movie series: “The Evil Dead”
Auditions begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Little Theatre on the bottom floor of the west end of Cowan Hall on the Montana State University-Northern campus.
The MAT promotion for the auditions says that "Evil Dead: The Musical" — based on Sam Raimi’s films telling the story of five college students who unleash an evil force — may sound like a horror story, but it’s not.
“The songs are hilariously campy and the show is bursting with more farce than a Monty Python skit,” the promotion says, adding that it “unearths the old familiar story: boy and friends take a weekend getaway at abandoned cabin, boy expects to get lucky, boy unleashes ancient evil spirit, friends turn into Candarian Demons, boy fights until dawn to survive.” “As musical mayhem descends upon this sleepover in the woods, ‘camp’ takes on a whole new meaning” with songs like “All the Men in my Life Keep Getting Killed by Candarian Demons,” “Look Who’s Evil Now” and “Do the Necronomicon.”
The lead role of Ash already is set, but four male and four female roles are open for the characters:
• Linda — female, mezzo-soprano
• Cheryl — female, mezzo-soprano
• Scotty — male, tenor/baritone
• Shelly — female, mezzo-soprano
• Annie — female, mezzo-soprano
• Ed — male, tenor/baritone
• Jake — male, tenor/baritone
• Moose — male, tenor/baritone
Character details are available on MAT’s Facebook page.
MAT told people wishing to audition to be prepared to sing a song of their choice.
