Letter to the Editor: Thanks for helping at Red Cross blood drive

Editor,

Thanks to the 114 registered donors who walked through the doors of St. Jude Parish Center July 11 the Red Cross blood drive was a huge success.

Only six donors were deferred and there were three first-time donors. For some reason the July blood drive is usually a success. Our goal is 86 units, so having 114 walk through the doors is wonderful.

I, personally, would like to thank all of the donors who took time out of their day to donate. July is one of the months blood is most needed. The Fifth Avenue Christian Church donated their time to work the canteen, and Sue Swan helped me with the registration.

My thanks also to Lois Kuhn and Mary Saboe who are always willing to help with registration and all of the service groups that come forward to help with the canteen and the sponsoring of the cookies. The Knights of Columbus help with the set up and take down, and Al Bitz sets out and takes down the signs.

I believe this is one of the largest blood drives in the state and something we should be proud of. It would not be what it is today without the help of the community. I appreciate the patience and understanding of the donors as it does get a little chaotic once in a while.

Deanna Bitz

Registration volunteer
