Press release wrong - No museum vacancies

Contrary to the article “Museum board to fill vacancies” Havre Daily News ran Thursday, chair of the H. Earl Clack Memorial Museum Board Judi Dritshulas said there are no vacancies on the board.

A news release dated Aug. 15 from the Hill County Commission signed by Chair Mike Wendland, says the museum board was looking to fill  two vacancies. Wendland elaborated, in a phone interview, on the kind of people the museum board is looking for.

But Dritshulas said there are no vacancies.

“They certainly goofed up on their end,” she said of the commission

Dritshulas said vacancies had come up last year after board members Gary Wilson died and Thomas Huether moved, but they were filled soon after the vacancies opened by Lela Patera and Kathy Shrauger.

The news release was faxed to the newspaper in error.

Dritshulas said she doesn’t know why the commission would issue that news release. She said the release did raise some slight concern. Some board members wondered if this was the commission’s way of saying they’re not happy with some of the the board members and are looking to replace them, she said.

Hill County Commision Office administrator Stefnie Redding said this morning the press release was sent in error and confirmed that there are no vacancies on the museum board..

“Something fell through the cracks. My records were not updated,” she said.

Wendland was not available for comment.
