WASHINGTON - At the recent National Association of Federally Impacted Schools Board of Directors meeting held in Buffalo, New York, Voyd St. Pierre, superintendent of Rocky Boy Public Schools, was appointed At-Large III Director of the organization.
St. Pierre will serve with 14 other school district officials from around the country as a board member for NAFIS, a national association that works to ensure the needs of federally connected children are met through adequate Federal funds.
"We are excited to welcome Mr. Pierre to the NAFIS Board of Directors," said NAFIS President Sandy Doebert, "as we know he brings with him significant expertise in Impact Aid to his board position, and we look forward to working with him."
St. Pierre's career spans nearly 30 years as a teacher, principal, and superintendent. He taught high school for two years before becoming a principal intern and then principal at Rocky Boy Jr.-Sr High School. For the last 10 years, he has served as the district's superintendent.
"I'm completing my 26th year at Rocky Boy School District," he said, "a role that has made me keenly aware of the importance of Impact Aid, and I'm honored to begin the important work as a NAFIS Board Member."
In 1986, St. Pierre's professional career began with the Adult Education Program at Stone Child College in Rocky Boy. In this position, he focused on assisting individuals with Adult Basic Education and GED coursework, in addition to establishing evening and weekend Adult Education classes. He also taught part-time at the college, serving as a business and history instructor. After four years with the college, he accepted a teaching position with Rocky Boy High School in 1990 as a business teacher. St. Pierre has climbed the career ladder at Rocky Boy, serving as principal and now as superintendent of schools.
In 1996, St. Pierre earned a master's degree in educational administration from Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana.
St. Pierre has a strong history of being part of professional organizations including the Montana Association School Administrators, Montana Council on Indian Education, National Indian Impacted Schools Board of Directors, past president of the Indian Impact Schools of Montana and member of the Stone Child College Board of Directors.
He is an enrolled member of the Chippewa Cree Tribe.
As the At-Large III Director at NAFIS, St. Pierre will help establish and review major policy and plans of the association and will have specific legal and fiscal responsibilities to the members of the association that represent federally impacted school districts across the country.
"I am looking forward to working with Voyd," NAFIS Executive Director Hilary Goldmann said, "He brings with him a wealth of experience and ideas from which I know our association will benefit."
