The Chippewa Cree Cultural Resources Preservation Department held a rededication ribbon cutting Thursday to celebrate the expansion of its facilities into the basement of its building.
A luncheon and drawings for prizes at the Little Bear Gymnasium of Stone Child College preceded the ribbon cutting and a tour of the facility at 9740 Upper Box Elder Rd.
The department works for historic and cultural preservation on behalf of the Chippewa Cree Tribe.
Tribal Historic Preservation Officer Alvin Windy Boy Sr. said the basement, which was remodeled by Havre contractor Clausen and Sons, is used for accounting offices, a conference room and to house artifacts and archeological finds. The move comes as the organization works to become a limited liability company, or LLC.
Windy Boy said that before he retires in the next year, he hopes to add a 60-foot addition onto the building, part of which will be used to store the department's archives.
