Phillips County deputy shoots, kills man who attacked him

  MALTA — A Phillips County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a suspicious man Wednesday morning.

The Montana Department of Justice said the man had repeatedly stabbed Deputy Alan Guderjahn before the deputy fired back at him.

The deputy was responding of a call of a suspicious man near Mile Marker 122 on U.S.Highway 191 southwest of Malta.

The deputy is in Great Falls undergoing treatment.

Phillips County Sheriff Scott Moran has asked the Montana Department of Justice Division of Criminal Justice to investigate.

More details will be released alter in the day, Justice Department spokesman John Barnes said.

Early this morning, a Phillips County Sheriff’s deputy responded to a call about a suspicious male walking along US 191 near mile marker 122. When confronted, the suspect attacked and stabbed the deputy multiple times. The deputy discharged his firearm, killing the suspect. The deputy is currently in Great Falls for treatment and observation.

 

The Phillips County Sheriff has asked the Montana Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation to investigate the incident. The Montana Highway Patrol is also assisting with incident scene management.

 

Drivers should expect delays on US 191 until the incident scene is cleared.
