Robert "Bob" Dealand Montgomery passed away at the Teton Medical Center in Choteau, Montana on Saturday, July 16, 2016, one week shy of his 83rd birthday.
His family will miss him but are grateful he has gone home to be with his Lord. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 22, at the Augusta Community Church with a luncheon to follow at the Augusta Youth Center.
Bob was born July 22, 1933, in Selah, Washington, to Arthur Leonard Montgomery and Gladys Livesay Montgomery. He was raised in Washington, Colorado and Wyoming. He graduated from Baggs Wyoming High School, then moved to Montana, where he met the love of his life, Darlene Wattam. They were married on Aug. 28, 1953.
Bob spent two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following his discharge, the family returned to Havre, Montana, where their four children, Thomas, Peggy, Teri and Bruce were born and raised.
Bob worked for the Montana Department of Highways, GVW, for almost 33 years, first in Havre and after 1978 in Helena when he was promoted to assistant chief of law enforcement, GVW. He retired in 1986. Bob and Darlene lived in Helena until 2008, when they moved to Augusta, Montana.
Bob belonged to many organizations including the Eagles, Masons and Boy Scouts Council and was a Boy Scout Master. After moving to Helena he was an active member of the Moose Fraternity. Bob was a member of the Augusta Community Church. He loved hunting, fishing, stamp collecting, fly tying, playing cards and spending time with his family.
Bob's love for his family was beyond measure. He worked hard, often carpentering as a second job to see they were well provided for. He encouraged them to do their best at whatever they chose to pursue. He loved cheering his children and grandchildren on whether at sporting events or visiting them across the miles. He loved deeply and was deeply loved.
Survivors include his wife of more than 62 years, Darlene, daughters, Peggy Montgomery, Havre, Montana, and Teri (Russell) Bean, Augusta, Montana; son, Bruce (Corinna) Montgomery of Louisville Kentucky; grandchildren, Paul Montgomery, Burien, Washington, Annie Bean and Matt (Emily) Bean, Augusta, Montana, Dustin (Caitlin) Montgomery and Shae Montgomery, Louisville, Kentucky; and great-grandchildren, Miles and Eloise Wakeham, Solana Beach, California, Teagan and Aspen Bean, Augusta, Montana, and Liam Montgomery, Louisville, Kentucky.
