Del Mar Lee "Poncho" Briere Jr., 53, passed away of natural causes at his home on July 6, 2016.
Del Mar was born on Nov. 18, 1962 in Malta, Montana, to Del Mar Briere Sr. and Audrey Edgington. He was raised in Chinook, Montana, attending school there until seventh grade. He then attended eighth grade in Wahpeton, North Dakota. He went to high school at Chemawa Indian School in Salem, Oregon.
After graduation from high school, he attended many colleges: Portland Medical Center, Blackfeet Community College, Cornell University in New York state, Montana State University in Bozeman and the University Of North Dakota. He received his bachelor's degree in microbiology, which then became his lifelong career.
Del Mar married Gail Morris on Sept. 20, 1990, in Browning, Montana, and the couple's union was blessed with six children.
Del Mar and Gail divorced and he later married Catrina Nobles, and they were blessed with three children.
Growing up, Del Mar enjoyed playing music with his brother Garret Briere. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling and going to many concerts. Del Mar loved spending his free time with his children and grandchildren.
Del Mar is preceeded in death by his parents, Del Mar Briere Sr., Audrey Edginington, and Richard Edginington; his grandparents, Racheal Lacarno, Joe and Mary Louise Briere; and several aunts and uncles.
Del Mar is survived by his wife, Catrina Briere (children, Cera Nobles, Julia and Jarrod Briere); his former wife and friend, Gail Morris; his children, Ronald Kennerly Jr., Rodney Briere Sr., Randi (Joe) Corcoran, Renessa (Mitch) Galland, Darci (Nick) Heninger, Louise (Ronald) Moccasin III, Alycia Wilson and Garren Wilson; his brothers, Garret Briere and Dan McGuire; and several grandchildren.
