'It's just the greatest feeling'

Havre High School band member Meggan Smith writes about the thrill of participating in the Washington\, D.C. Independence Day Parade.

We started marching down this street after warmups, we didn't really know where we were going, but we hoped the parade would start soon. All the sudden, we turn onto this street filled from curb to building with people. Thousands of people squished together in this tiny area. We could hear the screams and the clapping. There was this moment, and many of the same followed, where I could see the crowds, I could hear the band around me, and I could see the cameras flashing and suddenly it was like there was nothing in the world that could stop me. It's just the greatest feeling in the world to feel that sense of joy and wonder as thousands of people watch me do what I love more than anything.

The feelings is just indescribable. And I know I speak for the entire band when I say the feeling of pride left in us all will stay with us forever.

We made history today, and we did it so well, and so phenomenally, I cannot believe it is over. It was just amazing. There are no words to completely describe this feeling, it's just phenomenal.

Our trip to Arlington National Cemetery after the parade was an experience. I am very glad we got to go, as sad as it was to see that. Looking at the eternal flame, and watching the changing of the fairs at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier were awe inspiring events.

The fireworks display from the reflecting pool were simply amazing. There is no better words to describe the beauty as they exploded in the air. Despite the clouds and the rain, it was still a perfect end to a historical day.
