HHS band member reflects on day in Washington, D.C.

From the moment we landed at the airport in D.C., the excitement just overwhelmed me. The bus ride into the city on its own was simply gorgeous. Our first stop was the Jefferson memorial and that was breath talking. The statue is so huge, and the writings on the wall just bring it all together.

After dinner, we started our night at the World War II memorial. The ring of states and territories around the center pond is phenomenally beautiful. The golden stars mother wall showed an amazing sense of sacrifice. From there we walked to the Korean Memorial. The wall was engraved with such amazing detail and the statues were so complete and brilliant, the whole memorial was breathtaking. The Vietnam Memorial was very sobering. We watched some people take rubbings of family names, and there were several places with flowers placed below the walls.

We finished our night at the Lincoln Memorial, which was simply amazing. The statue is so huge, the speeches are phenomenal, and the view from the stairs. Nothing compares to looking across the reflection pool towards the Washington monument, it's like being on top of the world.

We are all incredibly excited for every adventure tomorrow brings.
