Havre High band members writes about activities

Meggan Smith, a Havre High School Band member, writes about what the band members did on Sunday.

Our first stop of the day was at Mount Vernon, George Washington's home. The grounds were gorgeous with forests and buildings. The lake behind the mansion only added to the beauty of the scene. On the walking tour through the mansion, several brightly colored rooms stood out, along with 5 of the 10 bedrooms in the house. The original grand staircase was beyond fantastic to see, it really showed the age of the house. Overall, Mount Vernon was insanely beautiful.

From Mount Vernon we went on to the Holocaust Museum, which was very historical and educational. While sad, it was a good learning experience.

Then we went to the Martin Luther King Jr. and FDR Memorials. Both were incredibly well built and fantastic to look at. The quotes that lined both memorials were inspirational to an extreme. And the statues and sculptures, those were phenomenal on a whole new level.

Our final event for the night was the dress rehearsal for A Capitol Fourth. By the time we got there, the lawn was already filled with people. We all managed to squish in various places, and we got our first real glimpse of the Capitol building.

Then the music started. The concert tomorrow night, no matter who in the nation is watching it, will blow the audience away. The performers are beyond fantastic and they are so much fun to listen to. The dancing is just mind blowing. Everyone on that stage is so talented and fantastic, it's incredible for a group like ours to see them, we can learn so much from them in such a short time. We couldn't have asked for a better night, or more specifically, the night before our big showcase at the Independence Day parade.
