Obituary - Gregory Hester

Gregory Hester, 67, of Havre passed away June 15, 2016.

Cremation has taken place, and services will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Fifth Avenue Christian Church.

Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with services and arrangements.

Gregg was born to Jesse and Lillian (French) Hester on Aug. 15, 1948, in Chicago. He was raised in Kentucky and graduated in 1965. He relocated a few times, ultimately making Montana home.

Once a teacher always a teacher, he encouraged all in his life and any he met to be educated especially the young people. He practiced what he preached by receiving his doctorate in education in 1997 from Montana State University in Bozeman. He knew numerous facts on many different subjects and was always teaching others. He taught high school in Kentucky and Montana and college in Florida and Montana, ending his 19-year career at Montana State University-Northern.

Gregg loved the outdoors. He had a passion for hunting elk in the upper Missouri Breaks and fishing for halibut in Alaska. However, he did not discriminate on what he would hunt and fish for, so long as he was doing it. He also enjoyed birdwatching and loved to teach biology. One of the special gatherings in the fall was with family and friends to watch the elk come together in the Missouri Breaks. He taught his family the fun of doing outdoor activities together such as camping and floating the rivers of Montana. Gregg loved his family and those he inherited when he married his wife, Lynn Leraas Frey, in 2001.

Gregg loved God and believed with his whole heart in the saving grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ. He felt that reading God's word daily was a necessary part of one's life.

Gregg is preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Lynn Hester; his grandparents; his uncle, and his aunts.

He is survived by his wife, Lynn Hester of Havre; his sons, Gregory Hester of Wyoming and Kyle Hester of Florida; his grandsons, Gregory and Dillion Hester of Wyoming; his sisters, Karla Hansel, Kristy (Mark) Roan and Conra "Shawnee" (Jody) Cowart, all of Kentucky; his brother, Jeff Hester of California; his step-sons, Bryan Frey of Havre and Michael (Jelena) Frey of Wyoming; and numerous nieces and nephews.
