State Farm is Babe Ruth champions

One of the best things about playing youth baseball in Havre in the chance to play in some of the great ballparks that are scattered around town.

Well, there is no better park in the area than Legion Field, which is where the players at the age level of Babe Ruth battled it out for the City Championship. And after a four-day tournament and a championship series that went the distance, it was the State Farm team that ended up capturing the championship by defeating the Optimist team.

The tournament, which began last Thursday at Legion Field, finished up Sunday, yet, thanks to Optimist, it lasted even longer than expected. After State Farm cruised into the championship round undefeated, Optimist had to rally from an earlier loss to get into the final game.

And that is exactly what Optimist was able to do. However, in order to win the title, it would need to defeat State Farm not once, but twice in order to be crowned city champion.

Even though the odds seemed long, Optimist took care of business in the first game against State Farm, winning by the score of 15-14. Yet, in the second game, Optimist ran out of gas and State Farm was able to secure the victory and the championship.

The State Farm team, which is managed by Brett Antley, also featured players Tony Antley, Dacen Caplette, Ethan Carlson, James Christensen, Austin DeLaRosa, Cameron Pleninger, Quinn Reno, Trent Shettel, Quinn Springer, Logan Twombly and Hunter Velk.

Dustin Malley was the manager of the Optimist team and his players were Joey Bender, Jacoby Fox, Dylan George, Taylor Gopher, Josiah Harrison, Clint Owens, Tanner Parsons, Jeremy Pugh, Kelden Sullivan and Calvin White.

In order to get into the championship game, Optimist first had to knock off Lions, which ended up finishing third among the Babe Ruth teams, while the team representing Wolfer's Diner finished fourth and Harlem, which is playing its first season of Babe Ruth, finished fifth.
