The Northern Montana Agriculture Research Center will hold its annual Field Day event and dinner Wednesday.
Darrin Boss, superintendent of NARC, which is operated through Montana State University, said the gathering at the research center allows researchers and other experts to share their knowledge of local trends and research findings with area growers and industry.
The Field Day is held in conjunction with the Havre Area Chamber of Commerce's Agriculture Appreciation Day.
Boss could not pinpoint when the first Field Day was held, but said it can be traced back to the 1920s and '30s.
Registration will begin at 3:30 p.m.
Three tours will be offered. People can will sign up for two, each of which is 90 minutes - one before the dinner and another after. Stops are made at key points to hear presenters speak about ongoing projects at NARC.
Boss said visitors will ride on tour wagons hitched to the back of tractors. At 5:30 guests will return from their respective tours and be treated to a free steak dinner with all the fixings provided by the Chamber's Agri-Business Committee.
During the dinner there will be speakers including Max Vogel, chair of that committee, as well as agriculture liaisons from each of Montana's three congressional representatives.
Announcements will also be made and agriculture appreciation awards presented.
The second round of tours will take place at 6:30 p.m., before the Field Day program adjourns at 8 p.m.
Boss said if people want to stay afterward to discuss projects with scientists and NARC staff they can do so.
The Field Day is free and open to the public and will be held at NARC's facilities at Fort Assinniboine, 3710 Assiniboine Road.
