Scofield wins Miss Montana pageant

Havre native moves on to Miss America Pageant

Havre native Lauren Scofield, 22, was crowned Miss Montana 2016 Saturday in Glendive by the outgoing Miss Montana, and she said she hasn't ruled out moviong back to Havre one day.

Scofield will advance to compete in the Miss America pageant in New Jersey in September. She hopes to win.

"That would be amazing," said the Havre High School graduate.

Scofield was born in Havre and said that to this day she still gets a lot of support "from home." She plans on becoming an OB-GYN and says coming back to Havre is something she has considered. The school she would most like to attend for her medical training is University of Washington.

Pageants aren't foreign to Scofield and her family. In 1986, her aunt Kamela Compton Bohlinger won the Miss Montana pageant. She said pageants aren't something she has done since she was young, but she did win Miss Teen Earth Montana in 2011.

Though she said she has fun being in front of people, Miss Montana said the main reason she participates in the pageants is for the opportunity to win scholarships, go on school tours, and to promote her education platform.

She won a $5,000 scholarship. Scofield said she hopes to plant the seeds of STEM - science, technology, engineering and math this year." She said she wants to inspire creative and innovative thinking.

Scofield is the daughter of Vince and Kim Scofield, now of Helena. While she was at Havre High School, she was active in many school and community organizations, especially those involving the environment.
