Local Golf Report: A special day and a great cause

From Tee to Green...

I may say it this time every year, but it is something that needs to continue being said. The Havre Women’s Golf Association does an incredible thing by putting on their Golfing for a Cure Tournament.

As someone who’s family has been affected by cancer, and as an avid golfer, I can’t say how much it means to me to have a tournament like the Golfing for a Cure Tournament in our area every summer. The cause, and all that the ladies of Havre and surrounding communities do for that cause each year, means so much to me, and I know it means so much to so many others, too, whether they’re golfers or not.

So, with that being said, last Saturday at Prairie Farms Golf Course was yet another special day as the 2016 version of the Golfing for a Cure Tournament was held. A full slate of teams and volunteers enjoyed a beautiful summer day at Prairie Farms, while plenty of money was raised for such an important cause.

On the golf course, Club Hoppers from Billings took first place. The team was made up of Traci Hirsch, Cyndi Pearce, Pam Kaufman and Brett Patrick. Second place went to Valley Furniture, made up of Kelsey Ward, Kim Evans, Karly Evans and Hoover Peterson. Third place was LaSalle Agency. The team was composed of Susie LaSalle, Cindy Schubert, Mar Ann McLean and Jarrod Wirt.

So congrats to all the ladies, and men who participated and volunteered their time for this year’s tourney. And a big thank you to Stacy Mantle, Melissa Oberquell, Katie Heath, Kathy Peterson, Shari Baltrusch, Carrie Kato, Chandra Moomey, Cindy Knudson, Kristi Peterson and everyone else who worked so hard to put this event together. Your time and dedication is truly appreciated.

Meanwhile, back on the links in league action last Thursday night, Northern Montana Hospital took high-team honors in ladies league at Prairie Farms with 27.5 points. Kim Klein, Patti Nault, Carol Culp and Terri Earl composed the team. Culp, Ali Ward and Mel Gilman also shared low gross, each shooting rounds of 42, while Debbie Callahan was low net with a 27.

Last week also saw the first half of the men’s league season come to an end at Prairie Farms, so playoff spots were on the line.

Last Tuesday night, Korb Construction was high team with 25 points. Matt Hedstrom, Dave Boles, Kyle Miller and Pat Foster made up the squad, while Hedstrom was low gross with a 1-under 35 and Foster was low net with a 31.5.

Korb Construction also took second place in the final first half standings, while Bing ‘N’ Bob’s won the first half. Hole 19 was third and BKD Law was fourth.

Last Wednesday night, D.A. Davidson and Master Sports shared high team with 19.5 points. Hedstrom continued his fine play with a 38, sharing low-gross honors with Kevin Harada. Dave Peterson was low net with a 32.

Mariani Insurance won the first half title, while Gallery Lounge, Bear Paw Credit Union and Havre Ford also qualified for the playoffs.

A special congrats also goes out to Lana Herman who scored a career-first hole-in-one last Sunday at Prairie Farms.

Herman aced the par-3 third hole from 112 yards out with a 5-wood. The shot was witnessed by Don, Rhonda and Dave Herman.
