Press release

Montana GEAR UP recently notified 73 seniors that they had earned the Pathways Scholarship, worth a total of $23,660.

The seniors are enrolled in schools served in the 2005 GEAR UP grant. This year’s award winners join a select group of 385 students who have been awarded the Pathways Scholarship over the past six years representing a scholarship commitment of over $9 million from Montana GEAR UP.

A few Pathways scholarship recipients shared what receiving the scholarship means to them:

“This scholarship is going to help me succeed in college, reaching my goals and dreams.” Alyssa Lamere from Box Elder High School.

“This scholarship means the world to me. It is going to help me make it in life and eventually help my people.” Brandon The Boy, also from Box Elder.

In order to earn the Montana GEAR UP Pathways Scholarship students must be Pell Grant eligible and complete the Montana University System College Prep Curriculum while maintaining at least a 2.5 GPA. Additionally, students must complete a comprehensive project and have been awarded the $1,500 achievement grant during their junior year of high school.

Applications were scored by a team of volunteers from educational organizations throughout the state. The names of the students and the high schools they represent can be found by clicking here 2016 Montana GEAR UP Pathways Scholarship Winners.
