Letter to the Editor: Friday showed what a great city Have is

Editor:

Friday was quite a day. Friday was the type of day that should remind everyone what makes Havre so special and encourage people to think about what Havre really can be.

On Friday, Gov. Steve Bullock attended two ceremonial events in Havre. After eight years of fundraising and planning, Montana State University-Northern hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for a state-of-the-art Diesel Technology Center, and Havre Trails formally accepted a $15,000 grant for updates to the US Bank Park trail across the street from MSU-Northern.

Both successes were the result of the efforts of hundreds of individuals, organizations and businesses. But as an employee at Northern and board member of Havre Trails, I personally feel like I got to make a small, but lasting impact on our community, and that is a both a fulfilling and hopeful feeling.

In Havre, there are so many people making a positive impact. Most Haverites I know serve on boards, coach sports, volunteer, serve in politics, or run a local business. That is what makes Havre so special. I truly believe what makes Havre great is all the people putting in a little extra elbow grease. It’s a sad but true fact that usually the governor can’t show up to congratulate the impact of each one of these individuals, but that doesn’t make their impact any less important or profound.

So today, let’s all be cheerleaders for Havre. Let’s cheer for the ways that people in this community go above and beyond to make Havre a great place to live. Let’s give them the fulfillment of a job well done and hope for Havre’s future. Let’s celebrate the average people who together renovate our downtown, keep the ice rink running, support youth baseball, soccer, golf, softball, wrestling, dance, volleyball and football, feed the community at Thanksgiving, celebrate the Fourth of July, support vibrant churches, fundraise for nonprofits, help their neighbors in need, put on 5Ks, plan parades, collect canned goods, put in extra hours as entrepreneurs, take flak as politicians and everything I else that I surely missed.

You know what they say: It’s the people.
