Local Sports Roundup: Chinook wins state tennis, Ponies headed to state

The Chinook girls captured their third straight Class B-C tennis state championship Saturday in Missoula. The Beeters scored a tournament record 56 points, including a state doubles title from the team of Lauren Harshman and Cortney Gunderson, who beat teammates Sierra Swank and Hattie Niederegger in the final. Chinook also got a third-place finish in singles from Brooke Nicholson and a sixth-place finish from Megan Pruttis.

The Havre High girls softball team will head to the Class A state tournament later this week thanks to a 9-5 win over Livingston Saturday morning in Belgrade. The Ponies finished third at the rained-out Central A tournament.

Meanwhile, the Havre boys track team finished a solid fifth at the Eastern A Divisional in Billings. The Ponies scored 62.5 point and qualified four individuals and both relay teams for this week's state meet. The Havre girls were 9th with 23 points and pushed three individuals and both relay teams through to the state meet this week in Bozeman.
