From Havre Trails
Havre Trails members are inviting the Havre community to join them and guests including the governor at 1 p.m. Friday at US Bank Park for a celebration of the Recreational Trails Program grant Havre Trails received last fall.
Representatives of Montana State Parks and Gov. Steve Bullock will speak at the event and a $15,000 check will be presented to the group.
Community members can tour the trail and view the project work completed.
The event will mark the first phase of work to be completed for the trail renovation project on the 20-acre city lot along 11th Street West.
A 20 percent match is required for all RTP projects, and several Havre area community members and organizations have pledged monetary or in-kind support, including Bill Baltrusch Construction, Havre Hi-Line Board of Realtors, James Sleeter Charitable Fund, the Havre Optimist Club, Hill County Community Foundation, the Montana State University-Northern Civil Engineering Technology Club, Havre High School Industrial Arts, Aylan Pratt, Boy Scout Troop 1438, Bear Paw Development Corp. and the city of Havre.
The Recreational Trails Program is one of two large federally funded grant programs administered by Montana State Parks to support the development and maintenance of recreational trails and trail facilities across Montana.
Around $2 million is allocated through these trail improvement programs each year.
