Huebsch awarded $1,000 PEO Scholarship

Chapter V of the International P.E.O. Sisterhood awrded a $1,000 scholarship to Havre High School senior Madison Huebsch for the 2016-2017 scholastic year at Montana State University-Northern. Huebsch plans to attend Northern to pursue a bachelor's degree. At Havre High School, she has maintained a 3.57 GPA and has been very active in school activities, as well as extracurricular community affairs. She is the daughter of Bill and Tracy Huebsch.

P.E.O. is a philanthropic educational organization founded in Iowa and is the second oldest women's organization in the country.

P.E.O. has six international projects to award scholarships and grants:

• International Peace Scholarship for graduate students of different countries

• Educational Loan Fund which provides low-interest loans up to $10,000

• Program for Continuing Education which are grants for returning women students

• P.E.O. Scholar Awards Program for outstanding graduate work

• P.E.O. Star Scholarship for outstanding senior high school women

• Cottey College, the only nonsectarian college in the United States owned and supported by women for women.

Other programs available to women are the Jane Hammer Holmgren Scholarship for elementary education and the Chapter V Martha Kuhr Memorial Scholarship which was awarded to nursing student, Lena Suek and two Chapter V Scholarships to Chelsea Mavencamp and Lindsey Perry, who are presently attending Northern.

There are various criteria necessary for each program.

There are two P.E.O. chapters in Havre, 84 chapters in the state and more than 5,951 chapters in the U.S. and Canada.
