Obituary - Alice Mae Mapes

Alice May Mapes, 74, died of natural causes Monday, May 2, 2016, at Northern Montana Care Center.

At her request, cremation has taken place and a private family burial will be held at Highland Cemetery.

Alice was born Jan. 22, 1942, in Esmond, North Dakota, to John and Christine (Keller) Haugen. She was raised in Devil's Lake and moved to Havre with her mom and brother when she was 9 years old. She attended schools in Havre. In 1959, she married Raymond Anderson, and together they had five children. The couple later divorced, and she married Dave Mapes in 1973 and he passed away seven years later.

Alice spent her years raising her children and would occasionally work as a housekeeper in various hotels in Havre. She cared for her mother for 20 years until she passed. Alice enjoyed camping, cooking, being in the outdoors and riding her bike. She enjoyed her time with family, her coffee club and helping at the First Lutheran Church with the food. She loved all animals especially her dogs.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Mapes, in 1980, her former husband, Raymond Anderson, and her grandchildren: Thomas Anderson II and the IV.

Alice is survived by her children Debbie (Brett) Smith of Spanish Fork, Utah, Tom Anderson and Larry (Dorothy) Anderson, all of Havre, Montana; Mark Anderson of Portland, Oregon, and Kenny (Michelle Friede) Anderson of Havre, Montana; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
