School elections set throughout Hi-Line

Residents in school districts throughout the Hi-Line will be voting for new school trustees Tuesday.

Some will also be voting on whether to raise taxes to pay for school programs.

The biggest race is in Havre where five people are seeking two seats on the board.

The candidates are incumbents Theresa Miller and Norman Proctor as well as Wayne Bolken, Keisha Fegan and Shaylee Lewis.

There will be a vote on a mill levy increase for the elementary school district that would amount to a tax hike of about $10 per year on a house with a $100,000 value.

Polls will be open at Havre High School noon to 8 p.m.

In other districts in the area:

Rocky Boy

There will be no mill levy in the Rocky Boy district, but six people are seeking a three-year term on the board. They are, Peggy Aquino, Donita Hay, Jennifer Parla Martin, James Seymour and Paulette Standing Rock.

Five people are seeking a one-year term that is caused by a resignation. They are Billie Jo Coffee, Elinor Nault Wright, Michelle Sangrey, Russell Standing Rock and Wilma Jean Tyner.

North Star

In the North Star district, three people are running for two school board seats. They are David Miller, Chase Rambo and Robert Spicher.

Voters will be asked to approve a mill levy that would raise $18,424,36. It would cost homeowners with a $100,000 home $2,58 and $5.16 for a house valued at $200,000.

Chester-Joplin-Inverness

Four people are seeking a seat on the board. They are Jason Erickson, Bruce Jepperson, Jeffrey Mattson and Lori Woods.

Three have filed to run for a one-year term on the board. They are Cara Fulbright, Andrew Stone and Barb Vinson.

Harlem

Three people are seeking an open school board seat. They are Dawn Bearcub, Kristie L. Crazy and Donald L. Long Knife.

Big Sandy

There will be no election in Big Sandy this year.

Chinook

Three people are seeking a seat on the board. They are Travis Buck, Scott DePriest and Mark Harshman.

A mill levy increase for the high school district would raiser $5,131.96 and raise taxes 96 cents on a $100,000 home and $1.92 on a $200,000 home.

An elementary district building fund mill levy would cost taxpayers $12.78 on a $100,000 home, but it will simply replace a tax that is expiring after five years. It would result in no tax hike.

An elementary district mill levy of 5.3 mills would cost the average owner of a $100,000 home $7.21.

Hays-Lodge Pole

Three people are seeking two seats on the school board.

They are incumbents Frank J. Doney and George Horse Capture. They are being challenged by J.W. Mount.

Box Elder

Two incumbents, Marylou Rossette and Joseph Rossette have filed for re-election, and no one filed to oppose them, so there will be no voting this year.
