Jack Thoes Furst, 89, of Cascade passed away April 23, 2016, at the VA Hospital in Fort Harrison.
A memorial service in his honor will be held at West Side United Methodist Church, 726 Central Ave. W., Great Falls, on Friday, April 29, 2016, at 2 p.m. with Pastor David Odell officiating. Cremation has been entrusted to Croxford Funeral Home.
Jack was born in Topeka, Kansas, to Guy and Esther (Thoes) Furst on Oct. 13, 1926.
He served as a medic in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged.
On March 8, 1958, Jack married who would become the sole love of his life, Sydney Muir, in the 1st Presbyterian Church in Billings. They lived and worked on the family ranch until 1963 at which time they moved to Havre where they raised their son and daughter. In Havre, Jack was a successful businessman, as well as being a member of the First Presbyterian Church. In 1979, the family moved to St. George, Utah, where they lived until returning to their home in Montana in 1994.
Jack loved people. He never met a stranger. He was a very creative and resourceful man. He loved his family and was a very loyal friend. He loved a good adventure. Jack was a considerate business man whose vision surpassed the monetary rewards and focused on the benefits of others.
He is survived by his children, Kathryn Furst, David Furst, Ann Furst Holcomb, Gary Furst and Michael Furst; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Jack is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sydney; his parents and siblings.
