Montana State University-Northern received a $50,000 check Thursday for the construction of its new Diesel Technology Center.
Chancellor Greg Kegel accepted the check during a ceremony in the campus' Armory Gymnasium during the college's eighth annual TekNoXpo with David Zinke, regional president of the Knife River Corporation, and Gary Forester, government affairs lobbyist for MDU Resources in Billings.
Knife River is a subsidiary of MDU Resources Group.
"Diesel mechanical expertise is critical to our operations and we appreciate the graduates of MSU-Northern diesel technology program - those who have worked with us in the past and those who will work with us in the future," Zinke said.
Kegel said that the proposed building now has about 93 percent of the $10 million needed to move forward with the project.
He said a ceremony to break ground on the project will take place May 20, coinciding with a Board of Regents meeting on the campus.
