Eagle project is building a parking lot

John Klein and his family have camped and hiked at Beaver Creek Park ever since they moved to Havre from Miles City eight years ago.

"My family and I hike at Beaver Creek all the time," he said. "I like to hike."

Now a freshman at Havre High School, he is working on earning his Eagle Scout badge. For his Eagle Scout project, he wants to give back to the park that has meant so much to him over the years.

He's going to build a gravel parking lot, two picnic tables, a fence, trash receptacles and outhouses in the area near the trail up Mount Otis, one of his favorite spots in the park.

He is out looking for contributions from businesses or individuals who want to help on the project.

Patrick Construction has already "given us a very generous cut on the price" for some of the materials he is going to need, he said.

Now he's working with Pacific Steel and Recycling, he said.

He said Beaver Creek Park officials have been great to work with, and are very excited about the project.

John is the son of Tom and Stephannie Klein. He has a brother Riley.

He hopes to get to work by the time school is out at Memorial Day and have it completed by the end of the summer.
