Local stars selected for Montana-Wyoming game

Havre High and Box Elder well-represented in prestigious All-Star basketball series this summer

Even though the high school and college basketball seasons are over, for some of the top high school players in the state of Montana, there is still more roundball to play.

That's because 10 boys and 10 girls from around the state have been selected to participate in the annual Montana-Wyoming All-Star basketball series. And after a spectacular season of high school basketball along the Hi-Line, it was no surprise to see a number of local athletes on the rosters.

Highlighting the boys roster is Havre High standout Dane Warp. Warp, who led Class A in scoring for the third straight season this past year. The senior, who will play for Carroll College next fall, averaged more than 25 points per game and led the Blue Ponies to the Class A state tournament for the third consecutive season. Warp is a three-time All-State selection and is the only Class A player in the history of Montana high school basketball to eclipse the 2,000 point plateau.

Joining Warp on the Montana roster will be a pair of Box Elder Bears. Brandon The Boy and Jerrod Four Colors, who each have earned multiple appearances on the Class C All-State team, were each named to the team. The Boy was the MVP of the 2016 Class C state tournament. Both he and Four Colors each played key roles in the Bears' second state championship in the past three seasons.

Joining Warp, The Boy and Four Colors on the team are Payton Stott of Billings Skyview, Jacob Hadley of Billings Central, Derrek Durocher, Colin Achenbach and Dylan Pannabecker of Choteau, as well as Aaron Weidenaar of Bozeman and Nick Tranel of Billings Skyview.

The girls that will be representing Montana are equally impressive, led by Havre High's own Dani Wagner. Like Warp, Wagner dominated Class A this past season, scoring more than 18 points per game and finishing second among all Class A girls basketball players in scoring.

Wagner, who committed to play at Carroll College starting next season, is a two-time All-State selection that helped the Ponies reach the Class A state tournament for the fifth-straight year this past march.

Joining Wagner on the team is Emerald Toth of Bozeman, Haylea Elkin of Billings West, Nora Kilck of Great Falls High, Tiara Gilham of Browning, Hailey Nicholson of Malta, Janie McRae of Shepherd, Raelynn Keefer of Forsyth and Shiloh McCormick of St. Labre.

The games will take place June 10 and 11 in Casper, Wyoming and at Rocky Mountain College in Billings.
