A three-day event in the Atrium Mall will feature high school and college student short films, as well as books and presentations on topics like genetically modified organisms, sustainable agriculture and mass media propaganda.
The New Idea Expo starts Friday at 6 p.m. and will end Sunday at 5 p.m. There will be workshops, vendors and food in addition to the presentations and 27 films.
Yellow Bus Creations, the group of local people who have organized the event, includes Kris and David Shaw, owners of the Atrium Mall, where the New Idea Expo will be held.
Other topics that will be covered include organic gardening, vaccination alternatives, alternative health care and energy technologies. The films will cover such topics as buckling up and body dysmorphia. Speakers will be in the Montana Academy of Dance Studio in Atrium.
Shaw said the New Idea Expo started 10 years ago when Yellow Bus Creations decided to have a film festival in Havre. The film festival grew over time and schools all over the Hi-Line were competing.
“This year we decided to change it up a little and do an expo instead of a film festival,” Shaw said.
Friday night will feature student short films and awards and the newest Michael Moore film, “Where to Invade Next.”
Saturday, speakers will give presentations, and Sunday will feature shorter presentations with more films.
