The dust will be rising as riders seek to stay mounted on bucking bulls this weekend, when the Montana State University-Northern Rodeo holds its annual Great Northern Bull Dazzle Friday and Saturday.
The event will take place in the Bigger Better Barn at the Great Northern Fairgrounds.
“There’s not a bad seat in the house, no matter where you sit,” said Doug Kallenberger, coach for Montana State University-Northern Rodeo.
Kallenberger estimated that last year, 1,500 people turned out for the event.
He said money generated from the Bull Dazzle will go toward scholarships, covering the cost of travel for club members and purchasing equipment.
Elite Professional Bullriders Inc. is hosting the event.
Kallenberger said the riders are from states throughout the Mountain West region and Canada.
Attendees will get to see 30 riders compete each night. The field will be winnowed down to the top 10 riders each night, who will compete in a short round for placings.
During halftime, miniature bucking horses will give children ages 9 to 13 the opportunity to do some miniature bareback riding. There is a 100-pound weight limit for riders and a limit of six riders each night, Kallenberger said.
Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Children age 10 and younger get in for free.
Kallenberger said tickets can be purchased before the event at Stockman Bank, Independence Bank or Norman’s Ranch and Sportswear.
The event begins at 6:30 p.m. each night.
