Obituary - MaryEtta Sohm

MaryEtta Sohm, 95, died Wednesday, March 16, 2016, in Surprise, Arizona.

She was born Jan. 16, 1921, in Sheldon, Iowa, to Edna and Cashius Whitmyer. She was raised on a dryland farm in Molt, Montana, and graduated high school from Park City. She attended Eastern Montana College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in education.

During World War II, she worked in airplane factories in San Diego, California.

In 1953, she married Eugene Sohm in Havre. There she taught in the Havre school district for 33 years and retired in 1975.

She enjoyed card games, traveling, gardening and volunteering. She is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Sohm; her brother, Carl Whitmyer; and sister, Ruth Metts.

She is survived by her son, Gary Sohm, Surprise, Arizona; grandchildren, Brad Sohm and Stacie McWatters; and two great-grandchildren, Josh and Toby.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Havre Senior Center.
