3 file for 2 Havre school board seats

May 3 voting could include mill levy hike

The three people who are hoping to fill the two Havre school board slots are Keshia Fegan and Wayne Bolken and incumbent Norm Proctor.

Proctor works at Montana Department of Transportation,. Fegan works at Steve Mariani Insurance and Bolken is a retired Havre Public Schools history teacher.

The two who receive the most votes earn the spots.

Incumbent Theresa Miller did not file for re-election.

Elections will be held May 3 at Sunnyside Intermediate School.

There will also be a special meeting in the Robins Administration Building, 4 p.m., March 31 to discuss whether or not a levy for the elementary school district will be presented to the voters, and if so, for how much.

The levy options for increasing revenue for day-to-day operations and maintenance are a full levy — going to the maximum allowed by the state — or something in between, as explained by Havre Public Schools Superintendent Andy Carlson in the past.

If the full levy is approved, property taxes would increase by an annual $15.21 per $100,000 home value.

If the board approves the levy it will be put on the ballot to be voted on May 3.
