Local boys earn Class C honors

It was an incredibly exciting basketball season for the schools along the Hi-Line this winter, and as the dust settles, the postseason honors have started to roll in for local players.

The District 9C put together a strong season that saw the league not only represent itself at the Northern C Divisional tournament, but also at state, as the Box Elder Bears won the Class C title for the second time in three years.

The Bears, who finished the season with a spectacular 26-1 record, won the district and Northern C divisional titles. They were also well represented on the All-District team as Brandon The Boy, Jerrod Four Colors and Pernell Morsette were all named to the First Team.

Chester-Joplin-Inverness was on the doorstep of the state tournament and came up just shy after finishing fourth at the Northern C. The Hawks also had three earn First-Team All 9C honors as Brandon Richter, Troy Harmon and Justin May all made the team. The others who received First-Team honors were Frank Runs Above and Tyson Shambo of Hays-Lodge Pole, as well as Ian McIntosh of Chinook.

The Bears also had players make their way earn Second-Team All 9C honors in Shane Ketchum and Tristan Bernard. The rest of the team includes Devon Miller of North Star, Cory Richter of CJI, Isaac Bell and Kord Schneider of Chinook, and Matthew Helmbrecht of North Star.

Jeremy MacDonald, the Box Elder head coach, earned Coach of the Year honors after leading the Bears to their fourth-consecutive district title and their second state title with him at the helm. MacDonald's Bears have gone an incredible 76-3 over the past three seasons.

While Box Elder got three players onto the First-Team All-District team, the Bears actually had four members make the Northern C All-State team. The four players selected from Box Elder to represent the Northern C on the All-State team were The Boy, Ketchum, Morsette and Four Colors.

The 9C finished with eight total members on the team as Harmon and May of CJI as well as Runs Above also earned All-State honors. The rest of the team featured two players from Belt: Koltin Haugrose and Matt Metrione, as well as Kendall Carpenter and Kade Woodhall from Denton-Geyser-Stanford; Logan Simmes and Treyton Pickering of Sunburst and Erik Pschernig of Simms.
