James O. Omlie, 88, passed away Monday, March 7, 2016, at Peace Hospice in Great Falls, Montana.
Cremation has taken place, and at his request no formal services will be held.
James was born March 11, 1927, in Havre, Montana, to Gilbert O. and Clara M. (Iverson) Omlie. He was raised in Havre, graduating from Havre High School in 1945.
He entered into the United States Army Air Force July 14, 1945 and served as a clerk typist 405 until he was honorably discharged in December 1946.
He attended Northern Montana College and then the University of Montana. After returning to Havre, he married Mary Wright in 1948, and together they had three children, Pam, Jim and Lori.
James worked as the manager of Buttery Department Store for many years. He then went on to manage the Havre Clinic for eight years, then opened his Blue Cross Blue Shield office in Havre.
He and Mary later divorced. He retired in 1990 when he sold the business to Steve Mariani Insurance and moved to Flathead Lake.
He was active in the Havre community, serving on the Havre City Council, on which he served as president. His hobbies included working in his yard, which he kept beautiful, and wood working.
James left the lake and moved to Great Falls with Dell Everart, and the couple later married, April 10, 2012.
He is survived by his son James W. Omlie; and two daughters, Pam (Gary) Nimmick and Lori Omlie, all of Havre; his two sisters: Lorraine Skaalure of Helena, Montana, and Virginia Kapernick of Havre, Montana; one brother, Donald (Shirley) Omlie of Fort Collins, Colorado; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
