A Chinook native living in Bozeman was killed by her ex-boyfriend Wednesday morning, Bozeman police charge.
Anthony Tobias Fagiano, 35, was arrested and charged with deliberate homicide in the death of Darcy Buhmann, 37, the Bozeman Chronicle reports. Bail was set at $1 million.
The Chronicle reports that Buhmann had lived in fear of Fagiano for some time.
Court documents indicate that at approximately 5:23 a.m. Wednesday, Christopher Wood of Bozeman called 911 to report that he received a text from Fagiano that said he had killed Buhmann, Wood's ex-wife.
"I just killed (Buhmann) it's best for you, she'll never be faithful," the text read.
A few minutes later, Bozeman police responded to Buhmann's home. Officers found a broken glass window near the back door of the house. There were also fresh footprints in the snow. However, the door was locked.
Officers then found the front door unlocked and went in the house. They smelled the fresh scent of a discharged firearm. They found Buhmann dead in a closet in an upstairs bedroom.
At 6:20 a.m., a Bozeman officer who was starting his shift found Fagiano outside of the Law and Justice Center smoking a cigarette.
When the officer asked Fagiano if he could help him with anything, Fagiano said he had just killed his girlfriend, the Chronicle reported.
The officer had Fagiano sit down and Fagiano told him the rifle he used to kill the woman was in a vehicle in the Law and Justice Center parking lot, the charging documents said.
Fagiano told a judge earlier this year that she was scared of her alleged murderer, detailing a violent history that included stalking, break-ins and attacks.
"I am terrified for the safety of me and my children," Buhmann wrote in January in a petition seeking a restraining order against Fagiano. "It would not surprise me if he tried raping or seriously injuring me."
In January, Buhmann applied for and was later granted a restraining order against Fagiano. In Buhmann's own handwriting, her petition depicts graphic allegations against 35-year-old Fagiano, whom police say admitted to shooting and killing Buhmann as she hid in her bedroom closet Wednesday.
"He is dangerous and unpredictable. I am constantly watching my back and afraid," Buhmann wrote.
