Border Patrol closes office building due to lead

U.S. Border Patrol administration operations have been moved from the Havre Sector headquarters building to the Havre U.S. Border Patrol Station because levels of lead have been detected in a small portion of the building.

Agent Mellisa Hart confirmed this morning that, upon conducting protocol testing, the General Service Administration detected lead in Havre Sector Office south of town.

Hart said the administration aspect of U.S. Border Patrol operations that were being conducted in the building have been moved to the Havre U.S. Border Patrol Station on 16th Avenue West. Hart emphasized that U.S. Border Patrol operations have not been impacted or diminished in any capacity.

Further testing is being conducted to determine the levels of lead, she said.

Hart said there have been no reports of anyone getting sick. The discovery is new and she said information right now is very limited.

"There really isn't any information," Hart said.

Hart said the patrol will issue a press release later in the day.

Havre Daily News will report all updates.
