Northern sweeps first-place LC State

Nights like the one the Montana State University-Northern men's and women's basketball teams had Friday night in the Armory Gymnasium are special. First, the No. 16 Skylights knocked off the first-place, and 12th-ranked Lewis-Clark State Warriors, 65-56 in a huge Frontier Conference showdown. Then, the Lights took down the 6th-ranked Warriors 82-72 in front of a raucous Armory Gymnasium crowd.

The Lights' win was their third straight, and their second in a row over a nationally ranked conference rival. Northern exploded for 48 points in the first half and shot 10-of-20 from 3-point range to beat LCSC for the first time this season. Warren Edmondson and Tyler Chandler combined for 26 points for the Lights, who will close out the regular season against Montana Tech tonight.

Meanwhile, the night started with a thrilling win by the Skylights, who can now earn the No. 2 seed in the Frontier playoffs for the second straight year. They still have to beat Montana Tech tonight, but they couldn't do it without their Friday night win over the Warriors.

Northern, which became the only team in the conference to beat the Warriors twice this season, got 16 points from Cydney Auzenne and 15 from Natalee Faupel.
