CHINOOK — John (Gunther) Holm was born Jan. 7, 1931, in Kuden Holstein, Germany to Christian and Katrina (Siert) Holm.
He passed away Feb. 23, 2016, at the Sweet Nursing Home in Chinook. Services will be held at Edwards Funeral Home, Monday, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Sweet Nursing Home or to a charity of one’s choice. Edwards Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be left for John’s family and friends at edwardsfuneralhomemt.com.
John grew up and attended schools in Germany, coming to the United States in 1953, under the sponsorship of his uncle, John Siert. He became a citizen of the U. S. and served in the U. S. Army from 1955 to 1957 with the honor guard stationed in Washington D.C.
After his discharge he began a career with Siert Construction, becoming owner of the business after his uncle, John Siert, passed away. They were responsible for many building projects in and out of Blaine County including the Blaine County Library and many projects at the Sweet Nursing Home. John was an outstanding cabinet maker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Jasper, Hans and Claus; his sister, Greta Claushan, all of Germany. He will be remembered and missed by his cousins, Inga Siert and her two sisters in Germany, Maria (Peter) Ove of Savannah, Georgia; sister-in-law, Inger Holm; his nephew, Reinhard Claushan; and his wife, Gretchen; and niece Karin Hager. John’s close friends, John and Karen Pike, Amelia Funk and Fern Holmes will also miss him. He will be remembered as a good and honest man.
