Students from around Hill County competed this week at the 50th Annual Hill County Spelling bee, with Torek Swensen, an eighth-grader from Havre Middle School, winning the 2016 competition.
Torek is the son of Lars and Kathleen Swensen, and will compete in the Treasure State Spelling Bee at Rocky Mountain College.
Torek spelled "chintz" correctly to advance to the championship round where he spelled "etymology" correctly.
Reserve champion speller is Tehya Vauthier, a sixth-grader at Havre Middle School.
Third-place winner is Samantha Oliver also from Havre Middle School.
The winners from the county bees from around Montana advance to the state competition each year.
