Dale Miller of Gildford, a member of the American Simmental Association Board of Trustees Executive Committee, has been elected chairman of the board, succeeding Bob Lanting of Twin Falls, Idaho
Miller Simmental, owned and operated by Dale and Paula Miller, is located just a few miles from the Canadian border north of Havre. Miller’s roots run deep in the area where all of his great-grandparents homesteaded in the early 1900s. A Simmental breeder since 1970 and a member of the Bulls of Big Sky marketing group, the Miller farm focuses primarily on dry-land wheat with their Simmental herd utilizing that land which is not suitable for farming.
“I am excited and humbled to be serving as chairman of the ASA Board,” Miller said. “As most cattlemen know, it is a very exciting time to be in the beef business, especially those connected to SimGenetics. The board members over the past several years have laid the groundwork for ASA to expand and benefit by the growth of the commercial cattlemen. I hope to do my part to continue this forward movement.”
Miller was formally seated during ASA’s 48th annual meeting held Jan. 17, in Denver.
Also seated were vice chairman Brian DeFreese, West Point, Indiana, and treasurer Tim Smith of Giddings, Texas. Rounding out ASA’s five-member executive committee are Fred Schuetze, Granbury, Texas; and Gordon Hodges, Hamptonville, North Carolina.
Founded in 1968, the American Simmental Association is headquartered in Bozeman.
ASA is committed to leveraging technology, education and collaboration to accelerate genetic profitability for the beef industry. In keeping with its commitment, ASA, along with its partners, formed International Genetic Solutions — the world’s largest genetic evaluation of beef cattle.
