Man accused of threatening woman with shotgun

A Havre man is accused of breaking a coffee cup over a woman’s head and then pointing a shotgun at her.

Christopher Kevin Porter, born in 1960, was arrested Wednesday for suspicion of assault with a weapon and partner or family member assault.

Officers responded to a call Wednesday around 3 p.m. after a woman reported that she was being threatened with a shotgun.

When officers arrived at the home, they found the woman and Porter arguing on the back steps.

The woman said that she and Porter were drinking at a Havre tavern earlier and they became intoxicated.

Porter and the woman left the establishment and returned to his residence, where an argument broke out. The argument intensified and Porter allegedly hit the woman in the back of the head with a large, metal coffee cup. The impact, the woman said, caused the handle of the cup to break and liquid spilled on her.

The officers, the probable cause affidavit said, noticed liquid on the woman and “noticeable injury to her head.” The cup, with the broken handle, was located in the living room. The woman told the officers that she punched Porter after being hit with the cup.

After Porter hit the woman with the coffee cup, the report said, she then told him that she was going to call the police and began to do so. She misdialed in her first attempt.

As the woman sat on a couch near the living room, Porter allegedly came in with a shotgun and pointed it at her. She told officers that she was afraid Porter was going to kill her.

An officer wrote in the report that there were items upset in the room, which was consistent with an altercation having taken place.

The woman said Porter put the shotgun behind the bedroom door and she later was able to call the police.

Officers said they found a loaded shotgun behind the door.
