Havre churches to hold Christian unity programs

Several churches in Havre will be hosting an all churches sing along and a series of breakfasts next week.

The events, which are scheduled for Jan. 24 through 29 and hosted by the Greater Havre Area Ministerial Association, are to mark a Week Of Prayer For Christian Unity.

“One of the things about the Christian community here in Havre is we really work to bring unity between all the church groups,” said Pastor Tim Zerger of the Havre Community Alliance Church, one of the churches organizing the gatherings.

According to the website for the World Council of Churches, a global fellowship of churches, denominations from around the world get together to observe the shared tenets of their Christian faith during the eight days between Jan 18 to 25.

The celebrations in Havre are being delayed by a week this year, Zerger said, so The Rev. Dan Wathen of St. Jude Thaddeus Church and The Rev. Curt Curtis of the Havre Assembly of God Church, who will be out of town this week, can participate.

The festivities will begin Sunday with an All-Church Sing Along, with members from all the participating churches at the Havre Community Alliance Church at 7 p.m.

“It’s where all the churches come together and bring their musicians and creative folks like that and we have a good time,” Zerger said.

Through the week there will be a series of interfaith breakfasts that will take place from 7 until 7:45 a.m., starting with the First Lutheran Church Monday. The Fifth Avenue Christian Church will host one Tuesday in collaboration with Abundant Life Ministries. Van Orsdel United Methodist Church will hold their breakfast Wednesday with the assistance of the First Baptist Church.

St. Jude Thaddeus Church and the Havre Assembly of God will host their own breakfasts on Thursday and Friday respectively.

All the gatherings are free and open to the public
