Havre High senior Dane Warp has had a choice to make for some time now, but not just where he wanted to go to college, but what sport he wanted to play.
That's because Warp was being sought after for both his football and basketball talents. In the end, hoops won out, as did the state of Montana, as Warp announced Friday morning he has signed an NAIA national letter of intent to play basketball at Carroll College.
he versatile 6-foot-4 guard averaged 23.3 points and 5.9 rebounds last season and also led the Blue Ponies from behind the arc, shooting 38 percent. The four-year starter, who has helped Havre to a 6-2 start, is a three-time Class A All-State selection.
His gridiron laurels are even more impressive.
Warp is a four-time Class All-State pick who broke the state's career records in both passing touchdowns (101) and passing yards (10,801). This past season Warp passed for 2,394 yards and 23 touchdowns, leading to Havre to state title game. He was also USA Today Montana Offensive Player of the Year by USA Today.
'It's really wild when you think about what he's accomplished at this early stage in his life," Carroll coach Carson Cunningham said in a Carroll press release. "I'm excited about the prospect of watching him continue to grow and develop into a dynamic young man as a Carroll College Fighting Saint, and am grateful that the Carroll Men's Basketball Program gets to be a part of it."
Warp, who boasts a 4.0 cumulative GPA, is the second Havre High hoops standout to sign with the Saints this winter. Dani Wagner signed the Carroll women's team in December.
