Man assaults woman with Bible and chair

A Havre man threw a chair and a Bible at the mother of his child, according to court documents.

Raistlen Katka, born in 1992, was arrested on suspicion of partner or family member assault Tuesday afternoon.

Charges had not been filed against Katka by Wednesday.

Havre police got a call Tuesday afternoon from someone reporting a possible disturbance. according to the documents. Officers arrived at a Boulevard Avenue residence and were pointed in the direction of the disturbance by a neighbor.

An officer went into the residence and asked Katka and the woman inside what was going on. The documents say that Katka told the officer that everything was all right. The two were just upset that they had to get rid of their dog. The woman then whispered to the officer, “Get him out of here,” the documents say.

Katka was escorted outside by two other officers while the officer inside spoke to the woman, the documents say. The woman said Katka was her domestic partner and they had a child together.

According to the document, the woman told the officer that she and Katka started arguing about money when Katka picked up a Bible and threw it at her. He then attacked her, while she was sitting in a chair, which caused the chair to tip backward and land her on the ground. Katka, the report says, got on top of her and put his forearm on her neck.

The woman said she screamed as loud as she could for help, meanwhile kicking and hitting Katka to get him off her, the documents say.

Katka got up, picked up a chair and threw it on her face, saying, “I should just kill you because I know that you are going to call the cops,” the documents say.

Katka then got off of the woman.

A neighbor then arrived at the residence and the woman told him to call the police because she couldn't find her phone.

The officer talking to the woman noticed a scratch above the woman's upper lip, a large bump above her left eye and a rip on her shirt.

Katka was arrested. He has prior convictions for partner or family member assault in 2013 and 2014.
